The Plague Doctor was a so-called doctor was treated patients with the Bubonic Plague and ohter pandemics. The creepy masks was a scary sight for the sick during those dark times.
The Plague Doctor was not a qualified or experienced physician. They were people hired by countries to treat poor people. Many of them were not doctors and tried to sell fake cures to the victims. They became an ominous sight and seen as a warning to many to leave an area because of the high level of disease.
The mask is creepy and beak-like. Scents were put inside the mask to cover the smell of disease. Overall Plague Doctors were mostly useless back during those dark times.
Today the Plague Doctor has become creepy cool and is fits in the Dark Academia Aesthetic where it is darkly fashionable to wear the image of the Plague Doctor and it's creepy mask on Apparel and other merch.
